The smoker works in almost auto pilot mode. You set the smoker up, plug it in and set the SS water bowl in place, set sliding the temperature control lever to a setting which will get the box to the proper temperature, add the flavoured pucks, hit the advance button and let the smoker do its magic.
For the downside, the temperature control is very difficult and inconsistent with the slide control. The six-rack Bradley smoker has the same heating element as the four-rack smoker. So while it is significantly larger it has no more power than the smaller model. The heating element in the smoker is way underpowered for the six-rack unit.
It takes over an hour to heat up to 200 degrees and then drops way down when you open it up to put the food in and takes well in excess of another hour to get back up to temperature. Owing to the design every time you have to open the unit to check on the food, you loss all of the heat which then takes forever to heat up. Think about it, to service the unit you have to open the door completely allows all the heat to escape.
